CULIACÁN, SINALOA. – The guindas continue to leave their mark in summer baseball. Over the past few days, Luis Verdugo and Javier Pérez delivered standout performances for their respective organizations, proving they are in peak form ahead of the winter campaign.
In Double-A with the San Diego Padres affiliate, the San Antonio Missions, Luis Verdugo put together a productive week at the plate, batting .308 across four games with four hits, three runs scored, and one RBI. The guinda infielder also showcased patience and an ability to get on base, posting a .400 OBP while serving as a key contributor to San Antonio’s offense.
Meanwhile, pitcher Javier Pérez delivered a dominant start in High-A for the Houston Astros organization, controlling the game from the mound over five innings of work. Pérez allowed just two hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters. His performance was backed by a stellar 0.60 WHIP, holding opposing hitters to a paltry .118 batting average against.
The strong outings by Verdugo and Pérez highlight the guinda talent that continues to develop and compete at the highest level within Major League Baseball organizations.
With the start of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico season right around the corner, the strong play of Tomateros players in summer ball provides a positive sign heading into a new campaign where the organization will once again compete for the championship.
