LOS MOCHIS, SINALOA. Powered by a fiery three-homer attack and a dramatic ninth-inning rally, the Tomateros de Culiacán defeated the Cañeros de Los Mochis 7-5 in ten innings, securing their first road series win of the campaign.
The Guinda offense struck early via the long ball in the first frame when JP Martínez launched a solo home run to right field to put Culiacán ahead 1-0.
Later in the seventh inning, Rosman Verdugo flexed his muscles once again, driving one over the wall to trim the deficit to 4-2. In that same frame, Ramiro Peña brought home "El Conejo" Robles—who had reached on a single—with a sacrifice fly to tighten the score at 4-3.
The dramatic comeback reached its peak in the ninth frame. With one out and Fabricio Macías on base, Jon Singleton punished opposing pitching with the team’s third blast of the game to heroically tie the contest at 5-5. This marks the second time this season that Tomateros have hit three home runs in a single game, following their Opening Day performance against the Venados de Mazatlán.
In the top of the tenth, the Verdugo brothers joined forces to put Culiacán back on top. With Luis Roberto standing on third base, Rosman delivered an RBI single to score his brother and break the tie.
Later in the inning, Lorenzo Bundy's squad executed a textbook squeeze play. JP Martínez completely caught the defense off guard with a bunt, allowing Rosman to cross the plate for the team's seventh run to seal the game and the series at Chevron Park.
Right-hander Sasagi Sánchez earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, while Robert Gsellman shut the door in the bottom half to secure his first save of the campaign.
Following this road victory, Tomateros will return to Culiacán to prepare for their next matchup this Tuesday, when they host the Mayos de Navojoa at Estadio Tomateros.
