CULIACÁN, SINALOA. In a dramatic contest that was decided in extra innings, Tomateros de Culiacán fought to the final out and showed remarkable resilience by storming back from an early deficit, though the visiting side ultimately managed to claim a 7-6 victory at Nación Guinda.
Although the Sonoran squad took an early 3-0 lead, the Culiacán offense refused to back down and answered back when it mattered most. It was in the fifth frame when the Guindas broke the shutout thanks to a monster home run by Fernando Villegas deep to center field.
An inning later, the home side unleashed a big four-run rally that electrified the crowd. With JP Martínez on base, Fabricio Macías lined a double down the left-center field gap to drive in Culiacán's second run. With Macías running at second, Jon Singleton brought home the third run courtesy of another extra-base hit. That same frame featured the highlight of the night: Fernando Villegas launched his second big fly of the game to sensationally tie the contest at 5-5, marking the first multi-HR game of the Saltillo native's career.
Despite the team's strong push to keep the score level and claim the win, the visiting squad capitalized on an opportunity in extra innings to break the tie and take the game.
The series will be decided tomorrow at 7:05 PM. The scheduled pitching matchup features Luis Cessa against Dalton Rodriguez.
