LA PAZ, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR. – The Tomateros de Culiacán Baseball Club played its first exhibition game of the "2026 Baja Series" at Estadio Arturo C. Nahl in La Paz, squaring off against the Cañeros de Los Mochis in a contest that concluded with a 7-3 score in favor of the green squad.
The guinda offense wasted no time making its presence felt, taking an early lead in the opening frame. Bryan Corral ripped a solid double to put himself in scoring position, allowing Sebastián García to deliver an RBI single to center field, driving in Corral with the game's first run.
The culichi attack struck again in the fourth inning. Ramiro Peña sparked the rally with a leadoff single to right, followed by Fabricio Macías, who lined a double to left field to put runners on second and third. Carlos Urías then hit a sharp grounder to first base that the Cañeros first baseman couldn't handle, allowing Peña to score the second guinda run while Macías advanced to third base. The third run crossed the plate immediately after, courtesy of a Christian Lucero sacrifice fly to right field that brought Macías home.
Right-hander Luis Cessa took the mound as the starter for Tomateros, pitching two scoreless innings where he surrendered just one hit, issued one walk, and struck out one batter. Following Cessa's outing, the coaching staff utilized its bullpen, giving work to Fernando Burgueño, Axel Sauceda, Diego Castro, Jorge Álvarez, and Francisco Haro.
The capital city squad will keep building momentum in Baja California Sur when they play their second exhibition matchup of the "Baja Series" this Friday at 8:00 P.M. (local time), taking on the Venados de Mazatlán.
