The Tomateros de Culiacán Baseball Club defeated the Venados de Mazatlán 3-2 at Estadio Teodoro Mariscal, concluding their exhibition schedule on a winning note ahead of the 2026-2027 Liga Mexicana del Pacífico Banamex season.
The Guinda squad fought back after surrendering two early runs in the opening frame. In the sixth inning, the offense from the Sinaloan capital answered back with a timely rally to knot the score at 2-2.
The game-winning run came in the top of the ninth inning when Lorenzo Bundy's squad mounted the decisive threat. Rosman Verdugo delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, driving home Cristian Lucero with the go-ahead run to seal the 3-2 victory.
Right-handed starter Luis Cessa led the charge on the mound, followed by a bullpen that proved dominant by tossing scoreless frames the rest of the way. Relief efforts from Pedro Reyes, Axel Sauceda, Robert Gsellman, Martín Urías, and Francisco Haro completely silenced the home offense to lock down the win.
With this road victory in the port city, Tomateros de Culiacán wrap up their preseason slate and are officially ready for the start of the regular season. The schedule kicks off this Wednesday, October 14 against the Venados in Mazatlán, followed by the grand opening night at the home of the Nación Guinda on Thursday, October 15.
