Joey Meneses led the way Thursday for the Guindas in Summer, connecting on a three-run home run in Triple-A, while Pedro Reyes delivered a solid relief outing with three scoreless innings in the Mexican Baseball League.
In Omaha, Meneses came through with the big hit for the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The Culiacán native launched his ninth home run of the season in the seventh inning, a shot to left field that extended the lead to 5-0. The first baseman finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk, in Las Vegas's 5-2 victory over Omaha.
There was Guinda production in Double-A as well. Orlando Martínez drove in a run for the Frisco RoughRiders, the Texas Rangers' affiliate, with a double to left field in the third inning. The hit was his fifteenth double of the year. Martínez finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, in Frisco's 6-3 win over the San Antonio Missions.
In Florida, Ichiro Cano contributed for the Daytona Tortugas, the Class A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The Guinda drew a walk in the third inning, stole a base and drove in a run with the bases loaded in the first inning. Daytona fell 7-2 to the Jupiter Hammerheads.
For his part, Rosman Verdugo reached base a couple of times with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The infielder hit a single to right field in the fifth inning and drew a walk in the eighth, though Fort Wayne lost 5-4 in Dayton.
In academy action, Juan Alva hit a line-drive single to right field in the fourth inning and scored two runs for the FCL Marlins, the Rookie-level affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
In the LMB, Pedro Reyes answered the call from the Acereros bullpen. The Guinda right-hander worked three scoreless innings, with three strikeouts, one hit and one walk. Acereros fell 11-4 to the Diablos Rojos del México. In that same game, Jon Singleton drove in the game's first run for the scarlet squad with the bases loaded in the first inning, scored later, and finished with an RBI and a run scored.
In Querétaro, Fabricio Macías got the Conspiradores' offense going early with a two-run home run in the first inning. The shot, his second homer of the campaign, sailed over center field. Conspiradores topped the Algodoneros Unión Laguna 11-6.
Finally, Luis Cessa turned in a scoreless relief appearance with the Olmecas de Tabasco. The right-hander retired one inning, allowed one hit, issued no walks and recorded a strikeout, in Tabasco's 7-4 loss to Durango.
That's how Thursday unfolded for the Guindas in summer.
