CULIACÁN, SINALOA. – As October gets underway, preseason preparations for the Tomateros de Culiacán are ramping up in intensity. The Guinda training camp welcomed a pair of high-value additions today with the arrivals of infielder Ichiro Cano and veteran reliever Sasagi Sánchez ahead of the 2026-2027 Liga Mexicana del Pacífico Banamex season.

Growth and Stability in the Infield

The San José del Cabo native enters his fourth campaign with the Culiacán club, looking to build upon a breakout winter in which he established himself at third base with a .292 batting average, 21 RBIs, and his first home run in the circuit. Cano is also coming off an outstanding summer in Single-A with the Cincinnati Reds organization (Daytona Tortugas), where he appeared in 110 games, tallied 109 hits, posted a .297 average, and led the team in RBIs (64) and total bases.

"I'm happy to be back here. Last season was a great year for me with a lot of learning opportunities. Heading into this season, we all share the same clear goal: we want to bring home the championship," noted the infielder after his first day of practice.

Experienced Arm for the Late Innings

Meanwhile, the bullpen gains valuable depth and consistency with the arrival of Sasagi Sánchez. The right-hander from Mazatlán reported for his eighth season in the Guinda jersey, established as one of the most reliable and seasoned arms for the late stages of the game.

"I feel great, it's always good to put on the Tomateros jersey again. To our fans: keep supporting us, because the Nación Guinda is a part of who we are. Keep coming out to the ballpark, and let's go after title number 14 together," stated the veteran pitcher.

The Tomateros will practice with a full squad this Friday in Culiacán before traveling to face the Cañeros de Los Mochis on October 3 and 4 in San Miguel Zapotitlán, Ahome, continuing their preseason exhibition schedule.
