CULIACÁN, SINALOA. – Mexican infielder Ichiro Cano wrapped up a breakout 2026 Minor League Baseball season, earning Player of the Year honors with the Daytona Tortugas, the Class-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

His growth and maturity made him the most consistent hitter in the lineup. Over 110 games, the young guinda posted a remarkable .297 batting average, collecting 109 hits—including 19 doubles, 3 triples, and 7 home runs—while scoring 67 runs.

Beyond his traditional counting stats, Ichiro stood out for his elite strike zone discipline and clutch hitting in high-leverage situations. Cano posted a .412 on-base percentage (OBP), reflecting his outstanding patience at the plate.

Ichiro also proved to be a clutch run producer, hitting .363 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and maintaining a strong .310 average with two outs, driving in a total of 64 runs.
