CULIACÁN, SINALOA.- Two players from the organization closed out the week front and center in their respective summer circuits. Ichiro Cano did it at the plate, in Single-A with the Daytona Tortugas. Manny Barreda did it from the mound, in a single outing.
Cano hit .467 across six games, with seven hits, two of them doubles. What defined the week was not the average but the patience: he drew ten walks, three more than his own hit total. Between hits and walks he reached base 17 times in 25 plate appearances, for an on-base percentage of .680. He was retired just eight times all week. The third baseman scored seven runs and finished with a 1.280 OPS.
Barreda took the mound once and left it with a clean line. Six full innings, three hits, no walks and five strikeouts in his outing with Charros de Jalisco. The only three runners to reach against him did so on hits. His WHIP finished at 0.50 and opposing hitters batted .158.
That is the picture of the week for the Guindas in summer ball. We keep a close watch on our own in every city.
