CD. OBREGÓN, SONORA. Behind a dominant performance of five scoreless innings from right-hander Luis Cessa, the Tomateros de Culiacán blanked the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón 4-0 to level the series at one game apiece in Sonoran territory.

The Guinda squad took the lead in the second frame courtesy of a solo home run by Jon Singleton deep to right field, marking his third big fly of the campaign. Culiacán pressed the attack later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to right by Ramiro Peña, allowing Ildefonso "Poncho" Ruiz to cross the plate.

Tomateros added to the tally in the fifth inning when Orlando Martínez drove home Édgar Robles—who had previously reached on a single—to extend the lead to 3-0 for the visitors.

An inning later, the Guinda lineup padded its lead. Ramiro Peña drove in his second run of the night with a single to center field, bringing home Fabricio Macías for Culiacán's fourth run.

Right-hander Luis Cessa earned the win after tossing five complete innings, yielding just three hits while striking out two. With this stellar performance, the Veracruz native secured his second victory of the season.

Following Cessa out of the bullpen, Seth Shuman, David Gutiérrez, Sasagi Sánchez, and Tony Rossi combined for a dominant relief effort to complete the team shutout, allowing just one hit over the rest of the game.

The series will be decided this Thursday at Estadio Yaquis as Lorenzo Bundy’s squad looks to secure the series win in Cajeme.
