CULIACÁN, SINALOA. In a dramatic and thrilling comeback that stretched into extra innings, Tomateros de Culiacán rallied from behind to defeat Navojoa 8-7 in ten innings.
The scoring opened in the second frame courtesy of Rosman Verdugo, who lined a solid double down the right-center field gap to drive in the first run of the game. With this RBI, the younger Verdugo brother reached 11 driven in on the season, staying among the league leaders in that category.
In the third inning, the Culiacán offense struck again. With JP Martínez on base, Jon Singleton lined a single to right field to drive in the second run for the home team. Later in the seventh frame, Ichiro Cano stepped up in the clutch, delivering an RBI to produce the third run for the Guinda cause.
Despite trailing heading into the final stretch, Lorenzo Bundy’s squad fought down to their last breath. In the ninth inning with the bases loaded, Fabricio Macías brought home the fourth run. With the bases still packed and one out to spare, Jon Singleton delivered in the clutch, ripping a ground ball right up the middle to drive in two runs and dramatically tie the game.
The comeback was sealed in the tenth frame. With the bases loaded once again, "Poncho" Ruiz drew a walk to force in the tying run, and on the very next at-bat, JP Martínez hit a dramatic walk-off sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run. With this, Tomateros defeated the Sonoran squad 8-7 in walk-off fashion, locking down the home series victory.
The Guindas will stay at home this weekend to host the Algodoneros de Guasave, in a series that kicks off this Friday at Estadio Tomateros starting at 7:05 PM.
