The Tomateros de Culiacán launched four home runs in the series opener against the Jaguares de Nayarit, but it wasn't enough as the visitors secured a 10-7 victory in ten innings.
The Guinda squad took an early lead in the first frame. Lead-off hitter JP Martínez ignited the offense with a solo home run—his fifth of the campaign—to tie for the team lead in big flies.
In the second inning, the home side added two more. Orlando Martínez and Fernando Villegas hit back-to-back singles before Rosman Verdugo laid down a sacrifice bunt that drew a throwing error from the pitcher, allowing the Guindas to extend their lead to 3-0.
The third inning brought more fireworks for Lorenzo Bundy's squad, featuring back-to-back solo home runs from Orlando Martínez and Fernando Villegas.
With the game tied 5-5, Culiacán broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth. Román Alí Solís crushed a pitch deep over the left-field wall for Culiacán's fourth home run of the night and his first of the season.
Nine innings weren't enough to decide a winner. In the top of the tenth, Nayarit put together a four-run rally. Culiacán pushed one run across in the bottom half of the frame, but the comeback fell short in the 10-7 setback.
The series continues tomorrow at Estadio Tomateros, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. Right-hander Manny Barreda takes the mound for the Guindas against Marco Fregozo for the visitors.
