Tomateritos de Culiacán wrote a special page in the organization's history by claiming the Tomateros' first championship at the LAMP Youth Tournament, after beating Jaguares 8-3 in the tournament's grand final.
The day had a championship feel from the start. In the semifinals, Tomateritos faced Yaquis in a tight, tense, pitching-heavy duel, where the Guinda squad managed to come out on top 1-0 to earn their ticket to the title game. In that matchup, Damián López stepped up on the mound with a dominant five-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to set the team on course for the final.
Hours later, in the championship game itself, Culiacán squared off against Jaguares and the Guinda offense showed up in full force. Tomateritos began building toward the title in the second inning with two runs that set the tone for the game. They added one more in the third, and then came the big blow in the fourth: a five-run rally that lit up the dugout and put the game firmly under control.
On offense, Tomateritos got contributions spread throughout the lineup. Jesús Acosta collected hits and helped keep the offensive pressure alive; Damián López came through with an RBI knock; Javier Pelayo also chipped in with a hit in a key spot; Paul Ríos contributed with a timely base hit; and Nicolás Sánchez, Max Figueroa, Víctor Carranza, Kristian López and José Zamora all contributed by moving runners, getting on base and pushing the Guinda offense forward in the key innings.
Jaguares tried to mount a comeback late, with one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth, but Tomateritos held the lead and closed out the game with composure to claim the championship.
On the mound in the final, Kristian López was the key figure, opening the game and working three-and-two-thirds innings, allowing just one run and striking out three. The Guinda pitching staff completed the job to keep Jaguares at bay and secure the title.
With this result, Tomateritos capped a memorable run through the tournament: they advanced out of the group stage, won a dramatic one-run semifinal, and closed it out with a commanding victory in the final.
Final score:
Jaguares 3
Tomateritos 8
Tomateritos de Culiacán, 2026 LAMP Youth Tournament champions.
