CULIACÁN, SINALOA. – The Tomateros de Culiacán Baseball Club continues to bolster its pitching staff ahead of the 2026-2027 Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico (LMP) season, officially announcing the addition of left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa, who brings active Major League experience to the team.

Born on January 27, 1997, in Madera, California, and holding Mexican heritage through his grandparents, Gamboa began his professional career in 2019 after being selected in the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Within the Dodgers system, he rose through every developmental stage, from Rookie ball to Triple-A.

The new guinda hurler joins the club at the peak of his career. He is currently on the Boston Red Sox active roster in Major League Baseball, where he has posted impressive numbers this 2026 season: a 1-0 record, a 1.29 ERA, and a 1.00 WHIP across 17 appearances. In 28.0 innings pitched, he has allowed just 4 earned runs while striking out 20 batters and holding opponents to a .206 batting average against.

Prior to his big-league call-up, the 29-year-old southpaw displayed his quality in South Korea's KBO League with the Lotte Giants during the 2025 season. In Asian baseball, he made 19 starts, recording a 3.58 ERA and striking out 117 batters over 108.0 innings pitched.

Gamboa is known for a dominant and lethal repertoire on the mound:

  • Sinker: 95 – 97 mph

  • Slider: 88 – 90 mph
